I don't think having empathy or sympathy means you don't have autism. It varies among autistics. Studies have shown that as a group we don't tend to pick up on the signals of emotion very well, and/or we don't understand as easily where the emotions comes from/why they are there, but once we are informed our empathy/sympathy is the same as that of non-autistic people, as a group.
